“What’re we doing here?” could be a pretty cosmic question, but in this case I mean specifically “What’re we doing here?” on this Substack, The Blue Ridge Breakdown.

Right now we’re doing the first video content of the year.

Some of the things I talk about in this video are 1) what I’ve heard from Democrats (left and right) about the 2024 election; 2) what the big Koch/Americans for Prosperity plan for West Virginia is; and, 3) how we construct our world around us every day.

Bottom line though, this is all about fostering community and trying to sift through the barrage of bullshit that we face every day. Sometimes it’ll be newsier, other times it’ll be more commentary, sometimes I’ll have a guest on a particular topic, other times I’ll riff on what you’ve shared with me.

It’s malleable and we’ll figure out what works for this community. It’s a work in progress and we’re going to maintain maximum flexibility as we get things rolling. The main goal is to produce something that’s worthwhile to you: the audience and the community.

We will not be regurgitating from other outlets beyond as news updates, we will always cite our sources, and we encourage you to read and support local reporters. There are times that we won’t cover whatever has been in the news cycle for an entire week, unless we feel like we have something to contribute that hasn’t already been repeated ad nauseam by six dozen overpaid pundits.

I feel like that would be a waste of all our time, and life’s just too short.

In the spirit of improvisation, I’ll probably never use a script, and I encourage you to bring your own free-form thoughts and share them here! Once we get rolling with a regular schedule and get going with Live conversations, we are scheming to be able to take on-air calls so you can weigh in directly.

In the meantime, if you find this valuable, please let your friends and family know what’s going on here.

And of course, let me - and the rest of the audience - know what you think in the comments below! We’ll open up the chat feature on Substack in due time too, but right now we just want to get started.

So that’s what I see going on here.

Fascism abhors both creativity and community. We’re going to do our best to foster both here.
